Steps to Reset Mac to Factory Settings: Turn off your Mac completely. Hold down the Command and the R on your keyboard at the same time. Power on your Macbook, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini or other OS X computer.

  1. Clear Your Terminal for a Like-New Session. This one is mostly unrelated, but I'm mentioning it anyway. The command clear makes your Terminal look like you just opened a new session, which is useful if you take a lot of screenshots and want things to look tidy (or don't want people over your shoulder to see what commands you've been running.).
  2. Since you have mentioned that running pwd shows a path not mentioning server, I believe you are mistaking server for being the directory when it is actually the hostname. OS X Server will change your hostname (by default) to server.private, so Terminal will show server: username$ (in Bash with the default prompt).
  3. Working with Terminal Start off by running the following command in the command line: Diskutil list This is going to list all the mounted drives on your Mac. Once you have found the proper drive to erase, just copy its identifier so you can use it for the next command.
  4. Just some time ago i installed the OS X Server app on my mac and since this day it always appears server as the chosen directory in my terminal. But because i dont really like the Server application i just removed it but the server in my terminal is still left. So i wonder now how i can get the default back like users/.

Every Mac is protected with a password. Most of the people use it to lock their computer, and others are required to enter it to make changes to their computer or install new applications. Recovery Mode

MacOS comes with a built-in recovery mode that allows you to perform various functions in case you can't login to your computer. It allows you to restore from Time Machine backups, repair and partition your hard drive, and get support online.
